Free Fire Safety Checks
Have we got safety guards on all of the plug sockets? Have all the cupboards got child safety locks on them? And most importantly for me - is the smoke alarm working?
I have a massive fear of fire and we always make sure that all of our appliances are turned off before we go to bed. A few weeks ago our neighbours had an electrical fire and it caused some quite substantial damage to their home but luckily no one was hurt.
The best way to save a life is to prevent a fire in the first place, and homes across the UK can now benefit from FREE Fire and Rescue Home Fire Safety Checks. And if that isn't enough to persuade you then surely the thought of 3 hunky, uniformed firemen turning up on your door step is!
The checks involve a crew visiting your home and giving advice, as well as fitting smoke alarms where necessary. In Lancashire, where I live, any resident can request one and they are completely free of charge. Don't worry if you're not based in Lancashire just get online and search for 'free fire safety checks' in your area or contact your local fire station direct on their landline - DO NOT CALL 999!
So what does the Fire Safety Check involve?
Your local fire service will usually...
* Provide and install FREE 10-year smoke alarms where necessary.
* Give life saving advice in the event of a fire in your home.
* Tell you how to make a fire escape plan for you and your family.
* Give practical advice on identifying fire hazards in the home.
All home fire safety checks are carried out by employees of the Fire and Rescue Service who will show identification.
If you live in Lancashire then you can call freephone number 0800 169 1125 to book a Home Fire Safety Check.
But remember accidents can still happen so make sure you follow all of their advice and ensure that your home and contents insurance is up to date.
