Review: Cars 2 Duplo
As you might already know, Mister A is lucky enough to be a Lego Duplo Expert and regularly reviews (and tests to extreme limits!) lots of Duplo, either giving it the thumbs up or thumbs down.
This time around he received a magnificent haul of Cars 2 Duplo and I have to say these are one set of toys that have been out almost every day. Usually Mister A gets bored after a week or so and certain unfortunate toys are cast to the back of the toy box never to be seen again (sorry Slinky) : ( The Cars 2 Duplo however is even getting a road testing from Little E whose favourite job is to stick together 2 small Duplo pieces and then break them up over and over again.
So... here are the fab sets we were sent....

Mister A wasted no time unpacking the pieces but asked the same question as usual. "Muuuu...um...my, why do all the pieces come in different tiny bags." - Now this is something I have often wondered myself. Ever since I was a young girl building my Lego house on Christmas day circa 1988, I have have struggled to work out whether there is any logical wrapping of Lego pieces. I used to think that maybe they were wrapped according to different stages of the build but on several occasions this was proved wrong. Then I thought maybe they were all similar kinds of pieces - like all the long ones were maybe packaged together, but that doesn't seem to be true either. It's not a colour thing either so I'm still left guessing, maybe I'll ask them when we all meet up? Maybe I won't just in case it's really obvious and I look totally silly! Anyway, I don't answer Mister A but instead cause a distraction by opening all the bags - gah - imagine if I've messed up the system by not opening the bags in the order they were intended. I guess we'll never know!
Anyway, I digress. Mister A has been playing with these sets for a good couple of months now and he literally LOVES them. His particular favourite is the 'Agent Mater' - this is because it fires missiles.*
He absolutely loves setting them all up on his 'car mat' and wheeling them round doing diff rent voices for each character so they're really stimulating his imagination. He loves that he can build the sets himself (even if Daddy does try to get involved!) and more often than not he constructs what he calls a 'mega-garage' out of all the Duplo bricks from all of these and previous sets - very creative. Unfortunately, Little E thinks it's hysterical to obliterate said structure and the mayhem commences.
All in all these Duplo sets come highly recommended by Mister A and slowly but surely Little E too. A big thumbs up from us - hours of silence can be had when Mister A is in construction mode. Go buy...NOW!!
*Mister A has since been banned from using Agent Mater within a 5 metre radius of his sister due to several 'accidental' hits. "But Mummy, I didn't mean to hit her, she moved in front of the missile" - you get the picture!

Review: Lego Duplo Play With Letters Set
Here at Second Time Mummy we are lucky enough to be Lego Duplo Experts. In fact Lego Duplo are even sponsoring us to go to CyberMummy 2011 in June.
This week we had an email telling us we were getting sent some more goodies to review. Mister A was so excited, he loves Duplo, so I showed him the Play With Letters set on the Lego website.
It arrived the very next day and he couldn't wait to get it open. We love toys in our house but when there's an educational aspect that's even better. Mister A is great with letters and his writing is coming on in leaps and bounds.
Here's what Lego say about the set: "Build a bigger vocabulary with LEGO® DUPLO® bricks! It has never been more fun to learn the alphabet! Big, colourful LEGO® DUPLO® bricks with matching letters and pictures, let children will have a great time learning letters."
Here's what Mister A thought of the set...
After unpacking Mister A decided to set himself a challenge. He wanted to lay out all the letters of the alphabet. It was great watching him hunt for all the letters and soon the alphabet began to emerge...
As boys do, he quickly tore the letters apart and started plotting an alphabet tower...
and soon the 'flowers' that are included in the set were being used as propellers...
Mister A really enjoys buildingg with Lego Duplo, it's great to see his thought process when he's playing and deciding what to buld next.
This set is great because he's having fun but also learning the alphabet too. It's using his creative side but also thinking about the different letters, shapes and colours.
Mister A is 4 and a half now so he's almost ready for 'big boys Lego' - that's not a problem though because Duplo fits Lego perfectly.
I can highly recommend this set for many, many hours of fun!

Lego Duplo Expert: Caravan Set
As some of you may know, last year Mister A was lucky enough to be chosen as one of 20 Lego Duplo Experts and over the course of the year we will hopefully be reviewing lots of lovely Duplo.
Our first parcel arrived just before Christmas and Mister A couldn't wait to get his hands on it. The Lego Duplo Caravan...

When I saw it I was a bit dubious and that he might get bored of it easily because he does have some quite 'advanced' toys but he's loved it so far. It's so great to watch him playing with toys like this because it seems to really open up his imagination. He loves driving the car around with 'Daddy' in the front seat...
At first he was a bit concerned that the Mummy, Daddy and Baby wouldn't all fit in the car at once but he has since learned how to get them all in. He loves sitting them all down for their BBQ meal...
I particularly love that the set comes with sleeping bags - a lovely little touch. When they've had enough for the day they can head back in to the caravan for a good nights sleep.
At £30.99 it's quite pricey, but it's a great little set with 21 pieces in total and you know that when you buy Duplo it is built to last (we still have Duplo from 20 years ago when we were younger!) Mister A seems to enjoy playing with it on every occasion and loves deciding where the family are going on their holidays - sometimes they go alien hunting, sometimes they go to France - make of that what you will!
So Mister A - thumbs up or thumbs down?
Overall, we love it and we would recommend - although we'll be buying more Duplo so that Mister A can build some new places for the family to visit.
