Tried and Tested: Breast Pads
Price: £3.99 for 50 pads (7.9p each)Size: Large thin pads that cover the whole bra cup

The Verdict: I really like the Tommee Tippee breast pads but because of my severe flooding I did find that the inner pad folded once they were fully saturated. I used these breast pads when I nursed Mister A (first time around) and I couldn't have recommended them highly enough. It seems though that now I have 'increased flow' they can fold leaving me a little damp.
I have continued to buy these though, because they feel comfy - I just have to make sure I have lots with me! They are soft against my skin and I like that they are dual wrapped with an easy open pack. Overall - a great pad and good value for money to.
Lansinoh

The verdict: The Lansinoh nursing pads were really thin as well as soft but managed to do a great job of keeping me dry. They managed to prevent those embarrassing leaks that I have suffered from with other brands.
The Lansinoh pads are individually wrapped to avoid germs but I did find it annoying that I had to open 2 wrappers and would much prefer to have them double wrapped like the Tommee Tippee pads. These pads are great for just throwing in to your bag in a rush though - they'll definitely stay clean on their own in those wrappers!
The best thing about the Lansinoh pads were that when they got really wet they didn't 'fold up' in my bra they managed to stay put and 'in shape'. A little bit pricey but worth paying extra for.
Nuby Natural Touch

The verdict: Out of all of the breast pads that I tried, these were the ones I was most disappointed with. I fell for the claim on the box that they are 'Extra Dry and Ultra Absorbent' but they really let me down.
I was impressed by how thin they were but they didn't stand a chance against my flow. These were saturated within a couple of hours and folded inside my bra leaving me with an unfortunate wet patch on my left boob.
Not only that, the pads are individually wrapped, but there is no easy tear opening so I struggled to even open them in the first place! Not good.
ASDA Little Angels
Size: Medium pads
Additional Information:
Not wrapped
Adhesive strip.
The verdict: These aren't as soft of the skin as some of the others but they did the job well. Even though they are medium sized they did keep me dry. The only downside to these is that the edging kept scratching me in my bra. They aren't wrapped but that wasn't an issue for me because I have a little pouch that I keep my pads on anyway. Overall great value for money and I would probably buy them again.
Tesco Own Brand
Size: Medium pads
Additional Information:
Not wrapped
Full width adhesive strip.
The verdict: A fabulous budget buy, these were great at staying in place in my bra - I love the full width adhesive strip and the fact that the backing strip is red so you can see where to peel it off! Absorbency was good and for a smaller pad I was impressed with the performance. They didn't fold when saturated and they left me feeling dry.
A must-have for mums on a budget!
Lilypadz Silicone Reusable Breast Pads
Size: Medium
Additional Information: LilyPadz are non-absorbent washable breast pads. Working on the principle that pressure on the nipple will stop leaking, the design of the pad will prevent leaking at all times - even when you're not wearing a bra!
The verdict:
I found that during the first couple of weeks of breast feeding I was going through so many packs of breast pads that it was costing me a fortune. I decided to scour the web to find alternatives and I came across these. They are clear, flexible, flower-shaped silicone breast covers that you wear over the nipple so there's no need for breast pads.
The silicone feels a little sticky and it just sticks to your skin. I didn't use these all the time just at times when I felt I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't leak - like when I was trying on dresses in town!
I found that as the time got nearer to the next feed (and my boob got hard) the LilyPadz couldn't quite hold the pressure and that meant when I removed it there would be some milk there to 'spill' out! Overall though, a great product - I'll be wearing these for special occasions.
After use you wash them in warm soapy water and air dry. They last for about 2-3 months, depending on daily usage.

Baby Couture
I had a good look around anyway - feeling a little bit like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman - yes I know I can't afford any of this stuff but there's no need to look down on me!
It got me thinking - if I was rich, if I did have a millionaire lifestyle, would I be prepared to pay £12 for a pair of newborn baby socks? I mean, even if I won the jackpot tomorrow, I'm pretty sure I'd still be heading off to see (dare I say it) good old George at ASDA for my baby socks!
So bearing in mind that my little girl is due to arrive in 5 weeks time, I thought I'd see what was on offer for those of you that do have Louis Vuitton purses bulging with £50 notes...
It's not just designer clothing that's needed to keep me ahead in the fashion stakes, it's all of the accessories too!
Last season's top selling pram at Very.co.uk was the Maclaren Juicy Couture Pushchair and it's still going strong - it seems you fashionistas out there can't get enough!
Then there's the all important changing bag - if only I could affford a Gucci at £570 - unfortunately I didn't even have that much to spend on a pram!
So I think, at least until I win the lottery or I become a famous fashion blogger with designers throwing their fab baby couture at me I'll just have to rely on cheap baby basics but I'm sure my daughter will forgive me!
